Geosciences Research

Geoscience Research at Gearhart:

•Methods for the determination, in the subsurface, of elastic rock properties such as Young's Modulus and failure  parameters such as Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) , Tensile Strength, and Internal Friction Angle.

•Characterization of in-situ stresses in terms of magnitude and direction.

•Ability of in-situ stresses to control fluid flow in natural fractures (or other mechanical discontinuities) and to influence the system permeability as a function of the rock's elastic and frictional properties.
